First off, this is my very first monthly post since joining the Insecure Writer's Support Group, and I'm excited to be a part of it and respond to prompts!
I would also like to apologize for not posting for a while, I have been spending extra time with family before I move out this coming weekend.
The IWSG prompt this month was "What's the one thing about your writing career you regret the most? Were you able to overcome it?"
This is a rather simple answer for me. I regret not having started sooner; if I had actually kept my childhood notebooks filled with stories (which I now only have vague memories of), I would have so much more stuff I could share with people. Instead, I'm just a broke college student with a laptop and some dreams, revising their old Notes App poetry to post online.
Unfortunately, I don't think this is something I can "overcome" I can't change the past, but I can look towards the future and commit to keeping my ideas in a safe place, and not throw them away from embarrassment (RIP to the fantastic elemental dragon island series I started writing in the 6th grade).
Welcome to the IWSG!
ReplyDeleteYou can't get it back, but you can rewrite it and it will be ten times better. I pulled out an old story (really old!) decided on only scene was worth saving and rewrote it all from scratch. It became my first published book. So there is hope!
Just by recognizing the problem and working moving forward, you are overcoming the problem! Cheers and welcome to the group!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the IWSG!
ReplyDeleteI agree that we shouldn't dwell too much on the past but rather look forward to the future with all it's possibilities!
Happy New Year!
I hear you, we can't go back, we can only go forward or risk being stagnant. You are not your past, and you can overcome it. Keep writing, as for the elemental dragons, why not reinvent it? Update it, use the brain you have now, improved with age and life. Stay strong, you got this.
